The Greatest Story Never Told

During the reign of Amenhotep IV, as the Egyptian hierarchy sought to eradicate the changes the boy king had made based on his belief in the one God, the king saw to the flight of those believed as he. The more they were pursued, the more the belief in one God migrated with their exodus into the lands and across the seas — eastward, north, and south into the wastelands. These peoples became the forerunners of those called Essenes.

Amidst the continuing pursuit, the Essenes found clandestine means through which to rejoin and restructure themselves. Strict training and discipline was balanced with the attitude of hope, and the joy and certainty of the unlimited nature of God’s spirit. And in century after century, they developed compelling abilities through the power of prayer and faith. All the while, their purpose, their reason for being grew: to prepare the way for the coming Prince of Peace.

Many generations passed until, according to their prophets, the time of entry drew near. It became imperative that the preparation must begin in earnest. A large council of all the tribes was called to a secret enclave known only to the Essenes by those who had sequestered there, in the inhospitable highlands of what now known as Qumran. Here, they framed systems and means by which all clans and families could contribute, whether there in seclusion, in outlying villages, or scattered along various routes and in distant lands it was deemed he might traverse. Thus, the vast Essene network was set in motion that would help fulfill the prophecy, the plan that would protect and preserve the destiny of the Christ.

These were the anticipators, the “expectant ones,” the Essenes. And this is their story.
